An Edible Forest is something that is spoken about in Permaculture and I felt it was something I wanted to explore more, allowing me to show people what can be achieved and sharing the knowledge.
The soil of the original site had a clay base with very little top soil. Using Permaculture principles, we were able to build up the soil with organic matter as well as creating swales to slow the flow of water, retaining moisture and encouraging micro-organisms to flourish. I believe that id you look after the soil without the need for commercial fertilizers, the soil will look after the plants, creating a natural immunity, where the plants will flourish.
Permaculture design principles mimic structures and inter-relationships found within a natural forest system to produce an abundance of diverse perennial foods and medicinal plants.
My dream was for a place were people could learn, understand, taste, smell and feel all the wonders of what an edible and medicinal garden landscape could offer.
I’ve never been disappointed with our permaculture designed garden and love that the Edible Forest attracts so many like-minded people whom, I hope, go home inspired after their visit.
This garden has taught me so much of what gardens can do for people, confirming that gardens are a place of healing. This garden has changed me and has helped me to make sense of my own thoughts and feelings. A garden can be used to change your thinking because of the calming affect it can have on your thoughts. There is nothing more beautiful then to take a leaf and rub it between your hands, lifting it to smell its beautiful scent. I only wished I discovered this many years ago!
It is so exciting that we can share this experience with you; our guests; we have recently commenced tours that are offered daily at 10am from Monday to Saturday (group bookings by appointment). The interest in our tours are mind blowing and beyond my expectations. To see my dream being shared with so many people is the best reward anyone could wish for.
I am so grateful for our team that share my passion and have put their heart and soul into the Edible Forest every day.
